Gardenia plant is also called Gandhraj/ Sugandhraj. It grows from cuttings. It is permanent plant. It blooms in summer with heavy fragrance. Many times people complain about not blooming, falling of buds, leaves becoming yellow and fall, poor quality of flowers.
So let's share its causes and remedies.
(1) Sun-- Exposer to direct sun. Keep it partial sun or keep it with group of other plants so that sunlight is distributed.
(2) Water-- Higher TDS value water, over watering, Humidity.
Use drinking water R O water.
For over watering solution, we should have good dranage system so that water does not log but soil must remain moist.
For maintaining humidity use pabbel tray with water and place the pot over it.
(3)Soil-- Bad soil composition and weak dranage system
Use soil, sand and compost in equal proportion.
Gardenia likes acidic soil so try to maintain soil P H label.
(4) Fertilizer-- Fertilizer problem:--
Gardenia is heavily feeder plant so use organic fertilizer- Cowdung, rose mix, vermi compstc, bone meal and liquid fertilizer made of tea leaves, coffee (for liquid fertilizer watch video in Bokaro garden playlist in English and Hindi)
Chemical fertilizer NPK or DAP use one spoon in one litre of water.It is in grains form then mix one spoon in soil for 12 inch pot. If the pot is less then twelve inch then reduce accordingly.
Use one fertilizer at one time and that too 15 / 20 days interval.
(5) Leaves becoming yellow and falling :--
It causes is soil has became alkaline. p!ant doesn't get nutrients from soil. As It likes acidic soil so mix the soil vermi compost, cowdung, used tea leaves and coffee.
Give bath with alum (fitkari) Use one spoon of alum in one litre of water.
(6) Quality and quantity of flowers complain :--
Use potash one spoon in one litre water for 12 inch pot.
Bone meal two spoon.
Use Epsom salt one spoon in one litre water and wash plant througlly.
(7) Pests and fungus :--
Spray neem oil one spoon in one litre water.
Fungicide like saaf, Trycodrema or whatever fungicide is available in your region. Spray in 15 -20 days one at a time.
Mulching :--
Less but not the least . Mulch your gardenia with coconut coir, compost, paddy hask, sea weed, dry tea leaves etc.
